The second collection of paintings by DramaBazi that explores the beauty of sacred geometric art and it’s connection to the Divine.
Many pointed stars (6 point, 8 point, 12 point) are common exemplars of this type of art found around the South Asian and North African regions. Because in Islam pictorial imagery was not historically allowed, Islamic geometry was seen as a stand in for the perfect and exacting nature of the Divine. The perfect symmetry and repetition in Islamic geometric design is due to its exacting design. The stars in this work coupled with DramaBazi signature abstract Arabic calligraphy just make “Written in the stars” the perfect moniker for the series.
“Juxtaposed” is the first in a series of paintings that will explore the contrast in beauty and styles of multiple types of artwork prevalent in the South Asian diaspora. Mainly exploring the contrast between flowing Arabic and Urdu calligraphy and the exacting rigidity of islamic geometric design.
